Little more than an hour from Il Quinto Moro Bed and Breakfast, you will find the ancient city of Tharros, a Phoenician-Roman port city that was abandoned in the year 1000 AD.

The town was rediscovered during excavations – first undertaken by the Italians and then the British and French – and some of the artefacts can be found in the British Museum in London and in the Borely Museum in Marseille.

The amazing ruins are set on a peninsula and seem to grow upwards from a sheltered bay.

Climb to the top of the Tower of San Giovanni for a stunning view of this open-air museum and take your swimsuit for a dip in the sea too!
